HEC-TV spotlights Menagerie at Art Saint Louis

Menagerie Juror's Statement

"A menagerie is a collection of wild animals on display to entertain, a kind of zoo maybe, but certainly with less pretensions towards the scientific.

The word menagerie gathered hundreds of wonderful artworks at Art Saint Louis from which my co-juror and I curated this exhibit.

It wasn’t easy, but in the end, I leaned towards the works that hinted at or even revealed the chained, dancing bear in us artists."

—Amy Bautz, artist, Associate Professor of Art and Program Director,
Studio Art, Saint Louis University

“It was an honor for me to co-Jury this exhibition for Art Saint Louis. All of the works submitted are worthy of applause.

The decisions made in narrowing down the submitted works to only 60 was not easy. Amy and I initially agreed on some, but disagreed on other works to be selected. After discussing in detail the merits of each piece, and with Robin’s push to get it done, we finally selected the works based on quality, creativity, thoughtfulness and attention to the title "Menagerie." I’m looking forward to meeting the artists the opening reception.”

— Phil Jarvis, artist
