PARKING RECOMMENDATIONS
There are parking METERS on Pine Street and Olive Street & other nearby streets. Parking meters run 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Fines are steep ($15-20), so don't let your meter expire. If you park at a meter for the reception, remember that meters operate in downtown until 7 p.m. on Saturday. For additional parking suggestions, download a free Downtown Parking Guide here. You can also download the handy Parkmobile app, whereby you can monitor & pay your St. Louis city parking meter via your mobile phone.
Hourly parking is available in the PARK PACIFIC GARAGE on Olive just West of Tucker. Parking is at your own expense. For garage parking, pay by cash via a machine in elevator bay no more than 15 minutes prior to departure OR the easier way is to pay by credit card upon exiting the garage. Be sure to take your parking receipt/ticket with you when you exit your car to visit the Gallery or you won't be able to get back in to the garage to get to your garage. Your parking ticket is your key to get back in to the garage. Art Saint Louis does not validate parking.
The Gallery is easily accessible by PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION with MetroLink and MetroBus with MetroBus stops on Olive Street and Tucker right near the building.

Juror's Statement
"Art Saint Louis (ASL) in downtown St. Louis, Missouri is one of the few professional venues where regional artists are afforded an opportunity to enter a juried exhibition to showcase their finished creative efforts. I was extended an invitation to jury "Art St. Louis XXXIII, The Exhibition" and very much looked forward to the review process. I was not disappointed. There was more than an ample amount of artwork to choose from and the artworks that I selected by 51 Missouri and Illinois artists, I believe, will provide viewers with much to enjoy and ponder.
I anticipated that the artwork that would be submitted would give me an accurate survey of the current “art scene” within a 250-mile radius of St. Louis, MO. About halfway through on the first go-round of the blind jury review it became crystal clear that this exhibition was going to have more paintings in the show than any other art medium because of the inordinate number of paintings that were tendered. I’m not certain why there were more painters entering paintings in "Art St. Louis XXXIII, The Exhibition."
I’ve always been grateful for the keen eyesight I feel I was born with. My eyes have proven an invaluable resource to me as an artist. So many times, in fact, that a long time ago I stopped counting the number of times I had relied on my “peepers” in a myriad of artistic situations. Even today, I pride myself with visiting an opening reception of an exhibition and being able to immediately pick-out the best piece in the show. My eyes, coupled with my 50 years as a passionate artist/educator, were extremely helpful in choosing the pieces in this exhibit.
Like a majority of artists, I have certain prejudices. There are certain qualities of art that I like better than others. I’m fond of artwork that is mysterious, unusual, quirky, skillful, timeless, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind art that emotes a magnetic quality that pulls me into the artwork. Finding one’s “voice” in their art can come seemingly overnight for the lucky artist but for others, like myself, the search can take years, decades or even an entire career. The rewards of finding one’s own voice can be very liberating and inspiring. In my own experience, once I discovered what I wanted to create, my mind has been running and my hands have been crawling. I have enough ideas for new pieces to last me a lifetime or two.
In most juried exhibitions, there will be dual emotions of happiness and sadness. Elation if you were accepted and disappointment, or worse, if you were rejected. I try to be flexible in my thinking when I submit my work to juried exhibits and treat my exhibition record as a learning curve when entering competitive shows. I understand that one juror may look kindly on my work and accept it while another, equally qualified jurist will take a dim view of my artwork and reject it. Such is life. The bottom line for me is to trust in my gut instinct and to keep on being a productive artist. So, my advice is to keep making new work in your studio as often as and as much as you can.
Congratulations to the artists in "Art St. Louis XXXIII, The Exhibition" and continued success with your future endeavors."
