This exhibit showcases the talents of Artists Informed by Time. A juried exhibit, this show was open to artists aged 70+ who, by making art, share their thoughts & ideas about the world and themselves with us. For this exhibit, 163 artworks were submitted by 71 St. Louis regional artists for consideration by exhibition Jurors Lynn Friedman Hamilton and Meredith Malone from which they selected 53 artworks in a variety of media by 57 artists from Missouri and Illinois for the final show.

Artworks featured in this multi-media exhibit address all themes, styles, techniques, and media. The 53 artworks in the show include ceramics, collage, digital media, drawing, glass, jewelry, painting, pastel, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, wood, and more.

This exhibit is dedicated to St. Louis artist Linda Dubinsky Skrainka (1940-2014), who was a long-time member of Art Saint Louis. Exhibit co-Juror Lynn Friedman Hamilton writes: "Linda was admired for her unfailing professionalism, her desire to be a catalyst, and, above all, her many creative talents. When this Renaissance woman participated in events, including Maturity and Its Muse’s shows, the end results became that much better. Linda found joy in making pictures, visually sharing her words and thoughts through her art. All spoke many meanings to me...of happiness, pleasure and peace. She encouraged me, through her words and enthusiasm, to seek this now realized partnership for Maturity and Its Muse with Art Saint Louis. With deepest gratitude and sincerest thanks."

JURORS' STATEMENT

"It was a pleasure to jury the exhibition Maturity and its Muse: Celebrating Artistic Experience, a project that showcases the talent of St. Louis regional artists aged 70+. Our goal was to represent in the exhibition the exciting range of media and styles present in the artistic submissions, as well as the variety of themes broached, including nature, the body, travel, family, identity, and selfhood. The works selected for final inclusion in the exhibition approach the broader topic of aging—how the lives and unique experiences of mature artists are reflected in their chosen aesthetic practices—from a diversity of compelling perspectives.
We would like to thank all of the artists who submitted their work for review. The submissions demonstrated a multiplicity of aesthetic positions and impressive technical skill. We also extend our gratitude to Robin Hirsch-Steinhoff, Artistic Director of Art Saint Louis for the opportunity to jury this exhibition and for her thoughtful installation."
