We recently celebrated the opening of our 19th annual Varsity Art exhibition, featuring artworks from 34 graduate and undergraduate students representing 17 area colleges and universities. This is one of our most rewarding annual initiatives as the students clearly value the opportunity to have their work shown in a professional setting. I’ll long remember one of the students in a Varsity Art exhibit a few years who was on cloud nine because he sold a work of art at the opening reception. It’s a great feeling knowing that you've helped facilitate such an important moment in the life of an artist—a feeling that all our sponsors and community partners deserve to share in as they move our mission forward.
Another distinctive feature of the Varsity Art exhibit is the short video interviews we produced for the students, such as this one featuring artist Megan McCully. We invite gallery visitors to use their smartphone to scan codes printed on show tags and “Meet the Artist” by viewing their video interview. It’s a nifty way of connecting the artist and the viewer.
Metro values our longstanding partnership with Art Saint Louis. Our board members, executive staff, and citizens attending public meetings in our building can look forward to the best artwork St. Louis has to offer, month after month.
