PARKING RECOMMENDATIONS

There are parking METERS on Pine Street and Olive Street & other nearby streets. Parking meters run 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Fines are steep ($20), so don't let your meter expire. If you park at a meter for the reception, remember that meters operate in downtown until 7 p.m. on Saturday. For additional parking suggestions, click here. You can also download the handy Parkmobile app, whereby you can monitor & pay your St. Louis city parking meter via your mobile phone.

Hourly parking is available in the PARK PACIFIC GARAGE on Olive just West of Tucker. Parking is at your own expense. For garage parking, pay by cash via a machine in elevator bay no more than 15 minutes prior to departure OR the easier way is to pay by credit card upon exiting the garage. Be sure to take your parking receipt/ticket with you when you exit your car to visit the Gallery or you won't be able to get back in to the garage to get to your garage. Your parking ticket is your key to get back in to the garage. Art Saint Louis does not validate parking.

The Gallery is easily accessible by PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION with MetroLink and MetroBus with MetroBus stops on Olive Street and Tucker right near the building.

Juror's Statement

"As an Art Saint Louis annual Exhibition alumnus (Art St. Louis VI--1990--juror Martin Prekop), I know this exhibition is a significant cultural resource for artists, as well as for the larger community. Art St. Louis showcases some of the finest and most innovative artwork being created in the region. I am honored to have the opportunity to jury this noteworthy exhibition.

In choosing work for Art St. Louis XXXIV, I sought to balance currents in international, contemporary art with perspectives that are unique to specific sense of place and culture of the region. I looked for distinctive viewpoints, whether they were expressed through prescient conceptual inquiry or innovative approaches to craftsmanship. I sought to include a range of media including printmaking, sculpture, woodworking, ceramics, photography, collage, fiber, painting, drawing, and digital media to give a cross section of the conceptual and technical diversity represented in the application pool. The region has a strong, vibrant art community and with 573 artworks submitted for my consideration, many strong pieces could not be included.

I would like to thank Robin Hirsch-Steinhoff, Artistic Director of Art St. Louis, for her tireless support in navigating the computer system, and keeping me updated on curatorial and spatial issues.  We started the process with a tour of the gallery in St. Louis, and concluded while I was on Oahu during Hurricane Lane, sending Robin a stream of logistics questions and installation concerns, while waiting out the storm. It has been an adventure! I look forward to seeing the manifestation of Art St. Louis XXXIV, The Exhibition in the Art Saint Louis Gallery."
