MOVING FORWARD WITH GRATITUDE



The past two weeks have been pretty monumental and our Art Saint Louis community has stepped up in beautiful and meaningful ways. Our deepest gratitude for all of the time, labor and skill that so many staff and volunteers contributed in moving us out of Pine Street and into our holding place inside 2801 Locust, awaiting the moment we can move in to our actual space within the building and set up our new home.

As those who volunteered have witnessed, the currently-in-progress construction of our new space has delayed our ability to move in on schedule. Our stuff is all on-site, but we are not yet inhabiting our new home. We do have realistic hope that we will be able to complete our move-in process in the next two weeks and are patiently looking forward to reopening Catalyst Coffee Bar in mid-August. The new ASL Gallery will open September 14, with a free reception from 5-7 p.m. for our first juried exhibit, "Memento Mori," featuring works by more than 75 STL regional artists. Stay tuned for more on the show as we approach September.

To help support ASL's move in a financial way, donations will help cover moving costs and to purchase goods, including new video monitors, supplies, equipment, and furnishings. Help Art Saint Louis Move

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
TO HELP US MOVE TO MIDTOWN ALLEY



As you hopefully already know, after 11 years at our current location and 40 years in downtown, Art Saint Louis and Catalyst Coffee Bar are relocating. We're so pleased to have this opportunity to relocate and look forward to sharing our new home with you.

Located on the ground floor of The Oakland building at 2801 Locust Street in Midtown Alley—a mere mile northwest of our current location—the new space is currently under construction and we will begin the move-in process mid-July.

Beginning Monday, July 15, we will start closing down the old space and preparing to move. To help make this happen, we are seeking volunteer assistance Mondays through Saturdays beginning July 15 to help move boxes, pedestals, goods from storage in our basement up to the Gallery, to help pack up our Catalyst Coffee Bar, disassemble and catalogue for re-assembly our three portable walls on casters, move furniture, and more. To assist with the move financially, we can very much use underwriting of a variety of things for the move and new space, including 3 new video monitors, new cafe tables, and other furnishings. Art Saint Louis On the Move

Art Saint Louis (ASL), along with its Catalyst Coffee Bar, is set to make a significant impact on the city's art ecosystem with its upcoming relocation to Midtown Alley in July 2024. The move to a larger location at 2801 Locust Street in the historic Oakland Building marks a pivotal moment for Art Saint Louis in its mission to serve as a nexus for the region's visual arts.


The move to Midtown Alley takes the forty-year old organization just over one mile northwest from its current location at 1223 Pine Street in the Park Pacific Building in Downtown St. Louis. In the 40 years that we've held held a location downtown, Art Saint Louis has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors and has provided a hub for all who celebrate visual art and artists. We are honored to exhibit original artworks by our region's fine visual artists and to share that with the community in our beautiful Gallery.


Since 2013, the addition of our coffee bar has helped to make ASL stronger, educating visitors on what it is like to live with original art, and providing a place where art and community can join together in a new way. Our team of talented baristas diligently works alongside ASL staffers to welcome visitors to our creative community and to make guests feel at-home.

By relocating to a vibrant and creative neighborhood like Midtown Alley, ASL aims to become an even stronger force in the city's art community. The new space will offer exciting opportunities for artists, art enthusiasts, and the general public to engage with the local art scene in a dynamic and immersive way.


“The new location’s spacious 4,060 square feet will provide ASL with a platform to expand its reach and engagement within St. Louis’s vibrant art community,” states Art Saint Louis Executive Director, Francesca Passanise. She goes on to say, “The most exciting aspects of the move, is the introduction of a new experimental space for duet and solo exhibitions, complementing ASL’s renowned group exhibitions, and the launch of an outdoor public impact exhibition residency site on the west exterior wall bringing art beyond the traditional gallery spaces and engaging the broader community in art experiences.”


Some of the key benefits of the relocation include:
    •    Doubling the number of galleries to showcase a wider range of artworks by St. Louis regional artists.
    •    Expanding the footprint for Catalyst Coffee Bar as well as the organization's art collector series, Couch Conversations and GIS-powered St. Louis Gallery Guide.
    •    Additional Gallery space with opportunities for concurrent curated exhibitions in addition to our year-round original juried exhibitions.
    •    Launching an outdoor public impact exhibition residency site on the new location's exterior wall.


The move to Midtown Alley signifies ASL's commitment to fostering a thriving arts community in St. Louis and creating a space where artists, galleries, and collectors can come together to share and celebrate the richness of the local art scene. Stay tuned for ASL's grand opening celebration in November 2024, featuring the milestone anniversary exhibition, "Art St. Louis 40, The Exhibition."

The works in this new show have not previously been exhibited by Art Saint Louis and include works in collage, digital art, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles.
